Who Attends - Each spring, 10,000 high school sophomores from across the country join one of 70 State Leadership Seminars to recognize their leadership talents and apply them to become effective, ethical leaders in their home, school, workplace and community.

From Parents - My son loved it. He came away with ideas about what he would like to do, and ways to get it done. I am so pleased that he has had an opportunity to participate in HOBY. HOBY is a really great organization that fulfills a terrific need. Particularly now when the Internet has empowered so many to start effective and sustainable grass-roots movements, the HOBY program is positioned to help kids make their ideas effective. I am so pleased with the impact HOBY has had on my son.

Outcomes - State Leadership Seminars focus on youth developing the following:

  1. The ability to develop leadership competencies and better able to solve community problems and enhance civic participation.
  2. The ability to analyze strengths and weaknesses, set personal goals, and have the self-esteem, confidence, motivation, and the ability to carry them out.
  3. The ability to establish support networks to fully participate in community life and effect positive social change.
  4. The ability to guide and direct others on a course of action, influence the opinions and behaviors of others and serve as a role model.

Diversity - We value and embrace diversity. We seek out views that reflect all walks of life, and reflect those views in our programs. We are sensitive to the special needs and diverse backgrounds of individuals. We give all individuals an equal opportunity to be heard and to benefit from our programs.
